The Life of the Bear Part 21

The Polar Bear Emperor was assassinated today. It was done by one of his security bears who thought that the Emperor's decision would get us all killed. Apparently, the Emperor was secretly making weapons for his army. A security bear stole a gun from the Emperor's secret weapons factory, and used it to kill the Emperor.
I was so surprised that this happened, and I thought that it was an awful way to stop the Emperor, but I also thought that it might have been the only way. A new Emperor will be chosen in an month or two and the Emperor's factory will be torn down in a few weeks. Their will not be an attack on the humans, But otherwise, nothing has changed. Us polar bears are still going to try to stop global warming, and we hope that humans will help us in our time of need.

The Life of the Bear Part 20

A week past and people were still protesting that the Polar Bear Emperor should not take action against humans. But all I could think about was what would happen if we did take action. we would stand no chance against the humans, we do not have an weapons, and we have no army. I wondered what the Emperor was thinking.
Because of this whole debacle, the meetings at the Science Center were canceled, so I got to stay home with Marjorine. I could not really enjoy my days off because I was thinking about the Emperor's decision. How would he achieve this? Well my questions was soon answered.
I was listening to the radio today, when a special broadcast was made. It said that polar bears are getting recruited to be in a new bear army. Any polar bears that want to fight for their live should enlist for the army.
"Who in their right mind would ever want to join an army to fight the most powerful species on the planet?" said Marjorine after she heard the report. "I do not know honey."

The Life of the Polar Bear Part 19

We walked off to the Polar Bear Emperor's house to protest with the other polar bears. But, by the time we got there, security bears were outside pushing all the polar bears away.
"You can not push us out of here, this is freedom of speech!" yelled a polar bear that was in the crowd. "I do not care about your rights, I got orders from the Polar Bear Emperor himself. He does not want polar bear going against their own people." said the security bear. "We do not want him to speak for us. we want our own voices heard." yelled another polar bear. "The Polar Bear Emperor is doing this to help you. You should all be thanking him instead of protesting."
After about an hour of yelling back and forth, The crowd dispersed. Me and my wife, Marjorine, left after everyone else did. We walked home feeling like we had failed at our mission to protest.
"Why could we not stay longer?" asked Marjorine. "Because, the security bears would not let us stay." I said. "who the hell cares about what security bears think." she said. "Its not just what the security bears think, its what the Polar Bears Emperor thinks."

The Life of the Bears Part 18

After I read the letter, I quickly ran home to tell my wife about this news. My house felt about five times as far as it actually is, because I was so worried about what might happen if this letter was true. I finally got home only to find my wife sitting out by the porch waiting for me.
"Marjorine, there was a letter from the Polar Bear Emperor that," but she cut me off before I could finish. "I already know Robert. They told us on the radio," with a worried tone in her voice. I did not even have to ask her how she felt about this issue, I could see how she felt by looking into her eyes. She was worried and I did not blame her, I was worried to.
"Well, what should we do?" she said. "What can we do, just two polar bears can not change the decision of the Emperor." I said. "Yeah, but a lot can. People are already starting to protest that the Emperor should not take action." she said.
She had a point, if enough polar bears protested against the Emperor, he might change his decision. But, why would the Emperor want to take action. Our race has been peaceful for hundreds of years, its had to believe that we might take action.
About three days after the letter came out, most of the polar bears were outside the Polar Bear Emperor's house protesting. Some held up signs that said, "We are not a violent race!" and "We will not be blamed for this." All the polar bears were also screaming, "We do not support your decision!" Even though none of us knew what the Polar Bear Emperor's decision is, we know that it will not be a peaceful one.
I was not protesting. I was watching the protesters on the TV. Marjorine was in the other room making signs so we could protest. We planned to go out and protest after Marjorine was done making the signs. She walked into the room and said, "How about you help me make some of these signs?" "I can no, I am watching what is happening with the protesting." I said. "I just wanted a little help." she said. "Will you stop nagging!" I said. "Why are you being such a jerk?!?" she said. "I am sorry, I am just a little bit frazzled about this issue, I am sorry."

The Life of the Bear Part 17

As I was walking to the Science Center that morning, I knew that it would turn out to be a bad day. The day already started out bad. I lost my good socks, I did not have time to eat any breakfast, and Marjorine woke me up at 5:15 am with all her snoring. I feared what might happen next that might just add to this already awful day. Maybe I will get in a fight with another bear, or maybe I will trip and fall into a big pile of bear poo. But I was not expecting what was going to happen when I reached the Science Center.
I walked up to the front doors, and right in front of me were all the polar bears that should be inside by now, each at a computer clicking and typing away. But no, they were all outside starring at the front door. it took me 45 minutes to reach the front door because so many bears were outside looking at it. But when i finally reached the door, a letter from the Bear Emperor was nailed to the front of the door.
Dear my Polar Bears,
"As many of you already know, it is getting hotter by the day. unlike other organisms, us polar bears live in a habitat that can not stay with this hot weather. This heat is getting trapped in our atmosphere because of greenhouse gases. the greenhouse gases are created when fuels, oils, and coals are burned. Fuel, oil, and coal are burned so that humans can live a more convenient life style. unfortunately, their way of life is conflicting with ours, and will will fight to make sure our species is not wiped off the face of the earth. Action is not going to take part for a while, but more information will be available in a couple of weeks.
Sincerely, The Polar Bear Emperor."

The Life of the Polar Bear Part 16

Today was a very hot Saturday. It was so hot, that a report was sent out saying that children and elderly should not go outside. I went out once, and could not stand being out because of the heat. The Science Center meeting was canceled so I was relieved about that. I could just sit at home and relax for the whole day. I had not had a relaxing day in so long, that I forgot what I could do to pass the time. My wife, Marjorine, was also at home because of her break from work. My wife and I had a nice breakfast of seal and squid, and after we read a few books. The entire day consisted of reading and talking to Marjorine. It was a little boring, but it was much better that being off at the Science Center researching the same thing over and over for hours. The day ended with a short shower, and watching a little TV.
The next day I wake up hoping the weather would be to hot again so I would not have to go to work again. But when I looked out my window, it did not look as hot as yesterday. So I got my things ready, and headed to the Science Center.

The Life of the Bear Part 15

So once again, I walked to the Science Center. I started to get a little bored with our subject of what humans know about polar bears. But part of my responsibility as a polar bear, is to help as much as possible. so I went to my computer. After about a hour and a half of reading stuff, all I found was that humans are putting chemicals into the air that are damaging immune systems, but we all kind of new about that. But the rest was just more stuff I all ready knew about. An announcement was made.
"We have discovered a new fact about humans and their impact on us polar bears. We want you to all look us the words 'polar bear hunting,' and see what you find. No one is to look up anything else besides polar bear hunting."
I have never heard of polar bear hunting. We hunt fish but I did not know that we polar bears were being hunted to.
When I looked it up, what I found was frightening. It said that Hunting is the biggest threat to the polar bears. I found this almost unreal because of how bad global warming is. Annually, 700 polar bears are killed, which prevents our population from growing. Polar bear hunting is only allowed in a land called Canada, but 60% of polar bears live in Canada. Some people travel to Canada from different parts of the world just so they can kill us off. The humans think that our dead bodies are like trophies. Thankfully some of the humans are on our side. Some human are trying to stop people from being able to transport our dead bodies to their home land. Maybe this will prevent people from coming into Canada to hunt us.

The Life of the Bear Part 14

Once again I walked off to the Science Center to research global warming. Our subject for research is still the same as it was yesterday, what humans think about global warming and polar bears. So I went to my computer and started to search.
I found that as far as humans know, there are only 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears left on the planet.
Humans also believe that if global warming does not end, two thirds of the polar bear population will be dead by 2050.
They also know that some of us are dying because we get stranded on a block of sea ice and can not get off. We sometimes resort to trying to swim back to our homes, but we have no chance by doing that.
By 2050, humans estimate that all the polar bears that are not in a land called the Canadian Arctic islands or the coast of Greenland will be dead.
The humans have done tests on how fast the ice melts, and they have come to the conclusion that in two years, .35 million square miles of the ice has already melted.

The Life of the Bear Part 13

When I came home that day, Marjorine was waiting for me right at the door.
"How was your day?" she said.
"Fine, how was yours?" I said in response.
"I do not know, I was a little bored all day, because I am not allowed to go to work until the summer is over."
"Oh Okay."
"Did you learn anything new?" she asked me.
"Well I learned that some humans want to stop global warming, and some still believe that it does not exist."
"How could people believe that global warming does not exist?"
"I do not know."
"And if people want to stop global warming, why do they not?"
"Well, some are trying stop it, but there are to many people who do not try to stop it."
"But how do they not know we are dying"
"I do not know, I just do not know."

The Life of the Bear Part 12

Today was just like any other day. I woke up, ate a small breakfast of scrambled bird eggs, and I walked to the Science Center to research more on global warming. But, instead of researching global warming, the bears that ran the meetings told us to research what humans thought of this issue. So I started my search.
I found that some of the humans actually want to help us polar bear. They say that if they do not change, and stop global warming, the whole polar bear population will be gone by the end of the century. Others however do not believe that global warming is real, and just believe that this is just a long heat wave that will end soon. And some think that us polar bears are going to adapt in another land and be like our bears cousins who live in the forest. But we have already started a society here. We do not want to move to another home because people can not drive fuel efficient cars, or change their light bulbs to a more energy saving brand?

The Life of the Bear Part 11

My wife and I stocked our house with as much fish as we could get. Since the hunting season is over, Marjorine does not have to go to work for the whole summer. While I still have to go to these meetings about how to stop global warming. You would think that after a while, we would think of a way to stop global warming, but the only way anybody has thought of, was to stop the burning of fuels, oil, and coal. But, how would we ever acomplish that, we do not think that humans would stop if we ask them, and we are not a violent race. How will we ever stop this mess.

The Life of the Bear Part 10

Spring is coming. Us polar bears believe that spring is the worst season of the year. When spring comes around, the weather becomes hotter than any other time. But now, because of global warming, the weather is becoming hotter earlier and earlier each year. The ice will melt at a faster rate, which means that our ice that we hunt on will be melted away until Autumn. We polar bears usually live off of our fat until Autumn when the ice will come back. But the ice freezes later and later each year and most of us do not have enough fat on us to live through the summer. if we do not do something, I think a lot of us are going to die.
This is the last that us polar bears can go out hunting before we have to stay in until Autumn comes. Any bear, hunter or not, could go with another hunter bear to try and get as much fish as possible. I went with my wife. She taught me how to hunt. She said the method she usually hunts with, is waiting by an opening in the ice until a sea creature swims to the top. She says that usually she will get a seal or a walrus or just a few fish when she come out to hunt. Lately she says that she will be lucky if she gets one or two fish or a few dead birds in one whole day of hunting.
By the time the day was over, we had only caught four fish. When we got home, our mailbox had a notice in it.
"Dear all Polar Bears,
I am sure you all know that the heat season has begun, and all polar bears should stay in the caverns until it is over. Only the most experienced polar bear hunters will go out during the season to hunt for the rest of us. This letter was sent to every residence in the cavern. We hope that everyone has a safe summer.
Sincerely, The Polar Bear Emperor."

The Life of the Bear Part 9

I started to walk home after a long day of researching on global warming. The walk from the Science Center to my house was about an hour, and throughout that hour, all I could think about was why we have to suffer for the selfishness of another race.

When I finally got back to my home, my mailbox had a letter from my penguin friend.

"Hello Robert,

I just wanted to check in to see how you were doing. Our society is having trouble with global warming and the amount of fish in the ocean. I haven't eaten in a long time, we have to cut back on the food we eat and I am sure your doing the same thing. I just wanted to know that you are safe and I wish you the best of luck in this time of crisis.

From your good friend the Penguins."

(To visit Penguin's blog, go to http://www.maxreiner.blogspot.com/)

The letter made me feel sad for the fact that many creatures are suffering from this problem. In Antarctica, Where my friend of living, the ice is melting five times faster than anywhere else on the earth. Some of the ice is breaking off which results in the penguins having to walk more mile than they should to get food. They sometimes get trapped on icebergs that have broken off. The heat also kills some of the fish that the penguins eat. The penguins are not becoming extinct yet because of the amount of them still left, but if the situation stays how it is. the penguin population will become extinct.

The Life of the Bear Part 8

After a few days of researching the global warming problem, us bears had thousands of ways to stop global warming, like,
Buying energy efficient lights.
Not heating or cooling your house so often.
Do not leave appliances on for to long.
Do not have the air conditioning on while the windows are open.
Only using a washing machine and dishwasher when they are full.
Take showers instead of taking baths.
Do not use so much water.
Let your clothes dry naturally instead of in a machine.
Recycle.
Buy reusable shopping bags.
Plant more trees.
Walk more.
Carpool with your friends.
Eat organic foods and not as much meat.
Buy a energy efficient car.
But, what makes us polar bears so mad about this is that we are suffering because humans can not do simple changes to their lifestyle.
Us bears do not contribute as much to global warming as humans do. We do not have cars, and instead we walk to our destination so we do not use any gas. We do not ware clothes, or have as much appliances in our homes to waste electricity. We do not take showers nor baths and waste water. And we do not have factories that burn coal.

The Life of the Bears Part 7

One week past since the articles came out. Both Marjorine and I have not eaten in over 24 hours. Everyone has to now cut back on the food that we eat, because of how little fish there are left in the ocean.

We both sat down at the table after a long day of work. We are both very hungry and tired and we want to eat. Unfortunately, all we had to eat were a few pieces of fish.

"We can not live like this," said my wife.

"I know honey, I know.

The next day all bear scientists had to go the the science center for a meeting. I was required to go to the meeting because I was a teacher. I walked to the science center and went inside. The building was packed with bears all at computers.

A bear came up to me and said, "Your computer is over there."

"But what am i supposed to e doing here?" i asked in response.

"Your supposed to be working on ways to stop global warming."

I went over to the computer and turned it on. I started by learning more about global warming.

But found that some humans are trying to stop global warming as well for the fear that our ice will melt, and flood the earth. But, i also found that some people believe that global warming does not exist and its just a conspiracy. Many believe that global warming was made up by politicians to make people live in fear and think that the government is the only thing that humans can trust. Some think that we have nothing to fear, and that the world will never end, and that the rise in temperature is natural. But us bears are very worried about this problem and believe that we need to do something to keep our race alive.

The Life of the Bear Part 6

"What are we going to do?" said Marjorine after reading the article for herself.

"What are we going to do?" she said again.

"I do not know." I said in a calm vioce trying to calm her down.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO?!?!?!?"

"I do not know yet"

My wife started to pace back and forth in the room mumbleing made up words to herself.

"Honey, it is okay, we will be fine." I said.

"No we will not, our food is running short, and our homes are melting away, how are we going to be fine?" she said.

"I do not know." I said.

"Thats not a good enough answer." She screamed back at me.

Our argument was interupted be the phone. I run over to answer it. It was my brother Skii (to visit my brother bear's blog, go to www.polararticmission.blogspot.com/).

"Hello?"

"Hi Robert."

"Hey"

"Did you read the article yet?"

"Do not remind me, my wife is having a fit"

"Bro that is funny your girl is always mad at you"

At that very moment, Marjorine started paceing the room again and yelling that we are all going to die.

"The wife is yelling at me, I have to go."

"I will call you back later."

I hung up the phone and ran over to my wife.
"Its okay honey, we will be okay"
"no we will not!!!!!!!!"

The Life of the Bear Part 5

Three days after the article on fish becoming extinct, a new article came out that was far worse than the last one.
I read the article.
"As I am sure you know already, the heat wave seems to be hotter than it ever has been and lasting longer than any other we have had. Some bears are saying that it is just another hot summer, but some have a different answer to the heat wave.
The same scientists that gave you the article on our fish becoming extinct, have discovered a new danger to our lives. As you all know, heat comes from the big yellow fire ball in the sky, or the sun as human call it. When this heat comes in to the atmosphere, it reflects off the earth and goes back out into space. Some gases called Carbon Dioxide and Methane, or Greenhouse Gases, absorbs this heat and keeps it in the atmosphere. greenhouse gases are created naturally through plants and animals, but the amount of greenhouse gases in the air has increased tremendously because of humans.
The natural forms of greenhouse gases, created by plants and animals, are just enough to keep the world at a steady heat, but humans are creating more greenhouse gases which results in the earth becoming hotter than it should be.
The humans are creating greenhouse gases from using fuels that are used in cars, airplanes, and the boats that we keep seeing. Factories also create greenhouse gases when they are running. Because the humans are traveling in these machines, and using these factories, the earth is becoming hotter, and eventually our home on the ice will melt and we will not have anywhere to survive."

The Life of the Polar Bear Part 4

Me and my wife, Marjorine, walked together back to our cave. Marjorine fixed up some nice fish stick for up to eat, and after that we both settled in to go to sleep.
At 1:42 in the morning, Marjorine looks over at me and says, "honey, I can not sleep."
"Well just read for a little bit and try to go to sleep," I said.
"No, i have to much on my mind," she said.
"whats the matter?" I asked.
"Well, when I was out hunting today, I could hardly find any fish or seals. I am just a little worried that we might run out of fish someday."
"Do not be ridiculous. There are lots of sea creatures just waiting for you to go out and catch them."
"Your right, I should not be worried about anything."
We both went back to sleep.

The next morning was just swell. It was a Saturday, I did not have to go to work, and i could spend the day with my lovely wife Marjorine, but then i read the newspaper. On the front page of the Arctic Bear Time's, were large letters saying, "Are Fish Becoming Extinct???"
I read on, " A recent study shows that our worst fear has finally come into affect. Our food source is running low. The reason you ask, is because the amount of fish the humans have to eat. Humans, as we found out recently, unfortunately eat the same fish that we eat. The humans have ways to catch hundreds of fish at a time. This is quickly decreasing the amount of fish in the ocean, to the point that in about 42 years, all the fish in the ocean could be gone. Also, you might want to cut back on some of the fish you eat, they could be poisoned from the pollution from those boats you have been seeing lately. If something does not change soon, our species could be wiped out altogether."

The Life of the Bear Part 3

These boats coming into our land and taking all of our fish did not suit well with the bear emperor. He was about to send an untrained army of polar bears to destroy the boats, and he would have if our race was not so peaceful. Although, after further inspection of the boats, our top scientists concluded that it was impenetrable.
I have only seen a boat once in my life. I saw it one day when I was walking to meet my wife Majorine. She is assigned as a hunter bear. Bears are assigned different jobs depending on their level of intellect. Because I have always bear on a high level of intellect, I was assigned as a teacher bear. Rumor has it that the hunter bears are are on the lowest level of intellect, but my wife is not as dumb as some of those other hunter bears I have seen.
So anyways, after a long day of work, I walked to the entrance to the underground caverns to meet my wife so I could walk her home when she came back from work. The hunter bears are usually the ones that get back to the caverns last, so I got myself ready for a long wait.
After about a half hour of waiting, I looked out into the ocean and saw it. A huge grey and black boat. I started to walk towards it, but it was miles off. Even if I walked to the very edge of the ice, I still would not have gotten a good view of it. In a matter of minutes it was gone. Even though it was miles off, it was the most frightening thing I had ever seen.

The Life of the Bear Part 2

What humans do not know is that while hunting for food, one of our great traveling bears came across a human building. It was small and was inhabited by no one at the time. The bear, being very curious, went inside only to find a box with lights in it. Humans would know this contraption as a computer. Being highly intelligent, we bears have learned how to use the computer to learn more about the other species that inhabit the earth. The Water Walkers, or boats, are a danger to our lives and any other creatures that go near it. Boats seem to run off of a substance called gasoline. This gasoline can catch on fire or explode if it comes in contact with fire. When boats absorb this gasoline, they tend to release some into the air, poisoning the atmosphere. Humans live inside the boats and hunt for whale and fish to the point that they are becoming extinct.

The Life of the Bear

The sun is at the top of the sky. The day was much hotter than it usually is, which only means that the hunting bears were not going to hunt for long. My feet are cold in the snow, but the rest of my body is hotter than its ever been. All i could think about was why has the world become so hot.
My name is Robert the bear, i live with my wife Marjorine. We live in a small two room cave in one of the many secret underground caverns that only the polar bear society know about. i am a teacher at Bear High University. i wanted to teach Bearology, but i unfortunately got stuck with History of Bear instead.
Our civilization has been has been around for thousands of years. We have achieved great knowledge beyond the comprehension of any human. We are a peaceful race who are not war hungry or power hungry. We like being alone and undisturbed and we do not have wars or fighting of any kind. but, much of that has changed. For the past 100 years, large metal water creature we have come to know as water walkers have invaded our land.
Some of our top scientists have researched these water walkers to try and learn more about their way of life. But what we found was horrible.

A Race Destroyed

People might hear about Global Warming from T.V. or the Newspaper, and yet, some people still do not try to stop this issue. Some people can not be bothered to drive to work with a friend, or turn off the lights when they leave the room, and as a consequence for that, Global Warming has killed 14% of the polar bear population in the past ten years. How would it feel to be a polar bear who's land is melting away because another species are to careless to turn out lights when they leave their homes. This story is about the struggles of an intelligent civilization of polar bears that are slowly becoming extinct.
